yoga

Growing up on the eastern slopes of Mount Tamalpais in the 1970s, Eloise tagged along with her yogi mother to Sylvia Boorstein’s Hatha Yoga class at College of Marin at age 12. After adventures with Bikram in her 20s and Iyengar in her 30s, she found Patricia Sullivan’s class— a softer form of Mr. Iyengar’s—and she knew she was home. As she was beginning her Craniosacral therapy practice in 1999, her clients wanted more understanding and support on how to live in their changing, unwinding bodies. She attended a teacher training at Yoga Mendocino with Mary Paffard and ever since, Eloise has been integrating yoga as a resource and tool for her bodywork clients to support and sustain their opening selves. Practicing Kim Holme’s movement-based yoga (Anusara-influenced) for the past 9 years has also inspired Eloise’s yoga. The foundation of Eloise’s class is remembering the earth is always there to support and energize us. As we root deeply into the earth we expand out from an embodied, grounded place. From there we can play!! There is more emphasis on the actions of each movement and pose versus the outcome or end result. Eloise is also a designer and photographer, producing her recycled denim el bag and her raw chocolate, and can often be found wandering the Pacific Plate with her camera, witnessing and filming nature for her work. She lives in downtown Point Reyes and finally gets to walk to yoga class.
